Review: Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

Review: Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

What would you do with a second chance? Shane is a college student majoring in premed, but she feels like she wasted her first few college years. So she decides to study a semester abroad in London, taking a creative writing course behind her parents back. Her list of things to do before she graduates and becomes a doctor like her parents want.

Shane’s ‘COLLEGE, TAKE TWO: STUDY ABROAD GOALS’

  1. Kick ass at internship – turn it into a paid summer job.
  2. Make friends you like to hang out with and who like to hang out with you.
  3. Kiss a boy you like. Stop kiss-blocking self.
  4. Have adventures in the city you’re in. You’ve done nothing in New York City during the 2.5 years you’ve been there, you idiot.
  5. Maybe try getting a little bit drunk. Don’t black out or anything, but find out what it’s like in a controlled, self-aware environment. You’re legally allowed to in the UK!
  6. Start your great American novel. You’ve spent an absurd amount of time trying to think of the perfect first sentence. Stop it. Just write.

Through many twists and turns, Shane makes three best friends and one crush that even after six years of not seeing or talking to each other she still has unfinished feelings for him. The newly engaged doctor still finds her heart longing for what could have been all those years ago. So when she gets that once in a lifetime chance, a chance to restart, what does she do with it?

I think to fully understand how much I love this book, you have to understand who I am. I’m a nerd, a big one. I love the Beatles and Harry Potter, I read and write all the time and my computer is my precious baby. I related to Shane on so many levels and I felt everything she felt, the good and the bad. I don’t know what to say except READ IT. This is probably in my top ten books forever and ever, that’s how wonderful it was. It was probably the best debut novel I’ve ever read, I 100% recommend it, it’s a wonderful book.
